Welcome to Gr.8 Social Studies with Ms.Breen
Units Covered:
The goal in Social Studies 8 is to encourage and enable students to examine issues and think critically about what it means to be a citizen of Canada and the world. This class is primarily inquiry and project based which allows students to take ownership of their learning. Social Studies is a class in which students are supported when contributing ideas and creating solutions.
What Assessment will look like:
A variety of formative assessments tools will be collected to show evidence of students' understanding. These assessment tools include; classroom observation, discussions and debates on key concepts, peer/self assessments and group challenges/activities.
Assessment of student learning, skill acquisition, and academic achievement at the conclusion of a section or unit will be obtained using assignments/projects, reflection questions, presentations and tests.
Homework Expectations:
There will be time given in class for students to complete work; if more time is needed it will become the student's responsibility to finish the work on their own time.
